Why Steady Scale exists

Small businesses are the heart of every community. They create gathering places, employ neighbors, sponsor little league teams, and bring character to our towns. Yet many owners are overwhelmed by the growing complexity of running one — websites, social media, reviews, email, POS systems, ads, AI tools, analytics, all competing for attention alongside the business itself.

Steady Scale exists to close that gap: helping owners confidently navigate modern marketing and technology without losing the personal touch that made their business work in the first place.

Our story

“I've sat on both sides of this table.”

Steady Scale was founded by Michael Sanders, a business builder with more than two decades of experience spanning software, product management, marketing, operations, and entrepreneurship. The road here wasn't a straight line — and that's exactly the point.

The road here

  1. Software engineering

    Where it started

Michael started as a software engineer — learning firsthand how the tools businesses run on are actually built, not just how they're sold.

  2. We Are Mammoth

    Co-founder · Nearly 11 years · Chicago

He spent nearly eleven years co-founding and helping grow a Chicago digital agency — where he helped launch two SaaS businesses from inside a consulting practice.

  3. DoneDone

    Co-founder & product lead · 7 years

A tool built specifically to help small businesses manage projects and customer communication in one place. That work meant sitting across from small business owners for years, learning firsthand what actually gets in their way.

  4. Vaya Con Tacos

    Founder · Michigan's Art Coast

An Austin-style breakfast taco business — building the brand, menu, and operations from scratch, and growing sales 50% month-over-month in its first season. That shifted his perspective one more time: not as a consultant advising a small business, but as the owner living the seasonal demand, staffing, marketing, and daily decisions himself.

  5. Steady Scale

    Founder · Today

Most agencies solve one piece of the puzzle — marketing firms handle advertising, tech consultants implement software, designers build websites. Real, sustainable growth comes from improving the whole system a business runs on. Steady Scale is what that whole journey pointed toward.

Growth should be steady.

We believe sustainable growth beats rapid growth. A business doesn't need to double overnight to be successful — more often, success comes from hundreds of small improvements made consistently over time.

These improvements compound. Over time, they create businesses that are healthier, more profitable, and more enjoyable to run.

The kind of steady improvements that add up:

  • A clearer website
  • Better customer communication
  • More online reviews
  • Stronger branding
  • An improved sales process
  • Simpler operations
  • More repeat customers
